Introducing our new President for 2025

Introducing our new President for 2025

Website Administrator5 Jan - 22:09

With the 2024 season now in the rear view mirror, we look forward to the 2025 season with an introduction to our new President

We're delighted to welcome a long-standing member of the club, John Scullion, as our new Honorary President for the next three years.

Here's an introduction to John, in his own words:

First of all I would just like to say that I feel very proud and honored to be asked to be President of Sileby Town Cricket Club.

For the people in the club that don't know me, I have been associated with the club now since 2007 when our youngest son, Rob Scullion, started playing for the Under 13's.

My first real involvement in helping at the club was one Sunday morning,  Richard James and Lester Singer were struggling to change the rear tyres on the old tractor,  after an hour  or so I volunteered my services to help  -  in 5 minutes they were off.

They said to me "you're a handy bloke"  - we should get to know you  -  I was in!!

At this point it made me realise that Sileby Town is made by the members who really care for the club, volunteering week in, week out, to provide excellent playing facilities and now also a great location for various community events.

We don't have cash being poured into the club and all that we achieve is through volunteers and money raised at our fundraising events.

Live music nights in the summer, live music on Sunday afternoons in the winter, the car show and bonfire night are some of the events we put on to raise funds to allow this club to progress forward.  All of these take an immense amount of effort and planning and we really need members support in all areas of these events we hold.

In each year I have been associated with the club, we have taken on a project to improve the facilities. One year a small project and another year a bigger one - no matter the project we are always moving forward. As a club we own the ground, so any improvements we make are there forever.

Onto the fun stuff - I am planning on holding a Presidents day during the season (unsurprisingly, some live music will be involved). Please make sure you come down and support us for what we hope will be a great day.

Looking forward to a great season in 2025!

We look forward to a successful period under John's Presidency and wish both John and his wife, Sharon, all the best for the next three years.
